Civil Engineering N1-N3

What you should know about Civil Engineering N1-N3.

Civil Engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, like bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, municipal or urban engineering, water resources engineering, materials engineering, coastal engineering, surveying, and construction engineering.

Each N level takes place over a minimum of one trimester. After each trimester, students are eligible for a National Certificate on that level. We recommend continuing through all three levels and doing N4, N5 and N6 in order to qualify for the National Diploma. The National Diploma requires students to work for a minimum of 18 months in the field before they are entitled to receive a National Diploma.

Admission Entry Requirements

    • N1 Entry Requirement: Grade 9 (Std 7) Certificate with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science OR no formal qualification required for everyone 23 years or older.
